Shane is an artist, a graphic, furniture and fashion designer, a loving husband and doting Dad to two boys. Born in New Zealand in the 1970s, he is of Māori (Tainui, Ngāti Mahanga, Ngāti Hine), Chinese, Danish and Scottish descent. The benefactor of a life lived long and well in Aotearoa. This country is in his blood, his heart and in his art.

His artistic world is one of bold colours, modern Māori motifs, optimism and clarity, inspired by his journey of cultural discovery and an admiration for pop-art, strong graphics and the environment that surrounds him.

As well as depicting the various shapes and tones of Aotearoa, Shane’s works express, confront and celebrate who he is, where he’s from and how he feels. Shane describes his work aptly: “it’s my therapy, kai for the mind and soul”.

Shane began his career as a self-taught fashion designer, setting up his own label at the age of 19. Subsequently he worked for New Zealand labels Canterbury International and Town & Country Surf Designs. In 2009, he started making art for a living, and since then, he hasn’t looked back. Career highlights include: 2016 - commissioned by the NZOC to design the team uniforms and village sculpture for the NZ Rio Summer Olympic Team. 2014 – commissioned by Sheppard Cycles to create an original bike to be presented to HRH Prince George during the New Zealand Royal Tour and in 2010 - one of five Māori artists selected to create Māori designs for Rugby World Cup 2011, where his designs were subsequenly licensed for the International market.

A diverse range of private and public clients both nationwide and internationally, collect Shane's work. He has been priviledged enough to complete many successful projects with well established New Zealand companies and organisations, such as, BMW NZ, Air New Zealand, Te Wananga o Aotearoa and the New Zealand Olympic Committee.

Shane supports many charities and community groups including, Oxfam, Amnesty International, Starship Foundation, Bowel Cancer NZ, Forest & Bird, Hospice and So We Can. He regularly accepts invitations to visit and inspire school students whom have a passion for art and participates in many community fundraising events.

His work has become a channel for an on-going examination of his multi-cultural heritage and he is determined to continue pushing the parameters of what he can express and achieve through it.
